Stomach Sensations

"Stomach Sensations" explores the stomach as a site where feelings and emotions manifest themselves in the body. Balloons, symbolizing the stomach, are manipulated through a variety of materials. They are filled with cotton then tied with sting, stretched and weighted with rocks, torn apart and then stitched together again. Their color and shape express specific feelings and emotions such as anger, love and loneliness. Tension is created through oppositions such as empty-full or smooth-shriveled. Others are filled with melted chocolate and gummy worms or wrapped in chewing gum. These visceral objects, addressing bingeing and over-consumption are filled with food products to the extent that they overflow.
