Bubblegum Dialogue

Consuming intensely flavored gum is like the beginning of an intimate relationship. The experience is new and passionate. However, the initial excitement often fades over time and looses its flavor. No longer being satisfied, we throw away the gum and exchange it for a new one. Sometimes we keep on chewing, staying in the relationship longer than we should have.

Chewinggum, an abject substance, fused with bodily fluids and half digested, is only shared with people that one has an intimate relationship with.
The two bubbles are engaging in a conversation. Still getting to know each other they are not willing to touch yet. The bubbles are speaking from a distance, one at a time. Gradually, they are getting bigger and closer to each other. They appear simultaneously, one pops and then the other. Beginning to trust each other they get even closer, seemingly touching. They hover briefly and then break. A fist touch, quick not sticking, separating quickly. Another attempt, pressing tightly against each other until they pop. Melting together they take part of each other. The intimate fusion repeats, this time slower, even more intensely.

The sound is lowered and slowed down so that the chewing transforms into the sound of moving liquids, referencing the interior of the body. Dialogues and rhythms are created between sound, movement and touch. Audio and visual are not in sync at all times. The popping sound is delayed or in between the visual bursting of the bubbles. The changing distance between the bubbles as well as the shifting size relationship between the bubbles and the black background create tension. The camera is moving in and out of focus, it is pulsating, echoing the rhythm of the bubble dialogue.
