| Gastral Projections consisted of several video sequences and sculptural objects exploring the human body as a landscape of tension. Between the videos and sculptures mind maps (word diagrams) schematized free associations about the semiotics of orality and digestion, and historical psychoanalytical thought. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Balloons, symbolizing the stomach, were filled with melted down chocolate and gummy worms or wrapped in chewing gum. These visceral objects, addressing bingeing and over-consumption were filled with food products to the extent that they overflowed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The
video sequences showed close-up shots of the mouth engaging in activities
such as biting lips and fingernails, chewing apart gummy worms, and smacking
green bubble gum. Activities of the mouth such as chewing, licking and consuming
nourishment are subject to rules and regulations and are often in conflict
with social expectations and norms. Digitally exaggerated, the viewer's
attention focuses on the mouth and its habits (biting, licking, sucking,
digesting) as a place where the external and internal meet, both physically and metaphorically. |

| An interactive mind map was created on one of the gallery walls. Pens were available and visitors were encouraged to add their own thoughts and associations to the word diagram. A web of communal thoughts and associations around given themes/key words related to the body was created. | ![]() |
