Enchanted Aisles

Motion sensor devices were inserted in a series of commercial products triggering scary sound effects when activated. These boxes of Cheers Laundry Detergent, Cheeseburger Macaroni Hamburger Helper, Aunt Jemima's Pancake Mix, and Electrasol Dishwasher Detergent were then 'dropped' on the shelves at a local super market.
Customers were haunted by sounds emanating from these commercial products. When walking down the aisle or moving their hands toward these boxes, customers were startled by a series of sound effects such as deep laughter or a high pitched scream.
A short video was created documenting peoples reactoins.

'Enchanted Aisles' was originally created for an exhibition at pond gallery . 'Shopdropping' was a show that catalogued and instigated the insertion of art into public places of commerce (specifically, conglomerate retail stores). The artwork - ranging from social sculptures to gentle gestures of gift-leaving - was presented in the exhibition in the form of multiples/duplicates or audio/photo/video documentation. Using beauty, humor, and intimate address to invite shoppers' self-reflection and second glance, the works eschewed a reductivist commodity critique in favor of complex strategies that detourned situations, presented alternatives to normative systems of exchange, and grafted together alternate economic regimes.
